Project Brief:
To design a seasonal womenswear collection that represents your personal vision and reflects a theme of Juxtaposition - A concept of two things being seen close together with contrasting effects.
Approach: Psychological Theory & Multi-functional Product
Timeline: 10 weeks
Inspired by an abstract theory of The Heider-Simmel Illusion (1940), an experiment conducted by psychologists Fritz Heider and Marianne Simmel.
Tell the story by answering the following questions:
1) What is a big triangle represent?
2) What kind is the little triangle represent?
3) What kind is the circle represent?
3) What kind is the rectangle represent?
4) What is the conflict between the shapes?

The Heider-Simmel illusion shows how complex the human brain works. The brain, therefore, has a unique enormous task: to take sparse inputs and transform them into extremely complex cognitive representations.
That is, although the information that is sent to the visual cortex is 2D, the brain extracts 3D information from it, by using clues like movement, perspective, experience, etc. Then, it creates a simple-to-complex transformation as a cognitive answer or explanation to everything that the brain received.
FORMA is my AAS Fashion Design graduation project when I studied at the Fashion Institute of Technology.
I responded to the theme of juxtaposition by addressing the concept of "Fashion and Anti-fashion". In this project, my intention is to interpret the two simple-yet-complex concepts — what is fashion and what is not fashion — through the language of simple shapes and forms.
_________
Fashion
(noun)
a popular trend, aesthetic expression at a particular time, place, and in a specific context, especially in clothing, footwear, lifestyle, accessories, makeup, hairstyle, and body proportions.
Anti-fashion
(noun)
an umbrella term for various styles of dress that are explicitly contrary to today's fashion. Anti-fashion styles may represent an attitude of indifference or may arise from political or practical goals which make fashion a secondary priority.
The collection is a study of geometric shapes (square, circle, triangle) form and their product transformation potentials. Therefore, I challenged myself by exploring the transformable possibilities of wearable garments and industrial products (drawstring/tote bag, sleeping bag, garment bag, etc.)
Highly functional dominate with a minimal and unisex silhouette, each piece in the collection is conceptual, convertible, yet aesthetically wearable.
